APS 5/6 Assistant Accountant

Our government client has an immediate requirement for an APS 5/6 Assistant Accountant with strong Excel skills to undertake day-to-day financial accounting tasks with a strong focus on providing financial support to the Financial Services Consultant.
The Assistant Accountant will contribute to the annual financial statements and manage the general ledger via the FMIS & Technology One. You will be responsible for the delivery of accurate and high quality financial services, including maintaining the asset register, assist with preparation of monthly management reports, maintenance of the chart accounts and period rollover and assisting with tax compliance including GST reconciliations.
Key duties:
  • Accurate input of data.
  • Monthly journals and reconciliations.
  • Management of term deposit investments.
  • Maintenance of the workers register ensuring reliable information is available in a timely manner.
  • Analyse data, identify variances or issues and draw conclusions or potential solutions.
  • Preparation of quality working papers and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with audit queries and liaise with internal and external stakeholders including the ANAO.
  • Contribute to consolidated financial statements process and audit.
  • Contribute to continuous business improvement initiatives as directed.
  • Appropriate document management.
Your Background:
  • Australian Citizenship – essential
  • National Police check, or willingness to undergo one.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial accounting tasks (such as recording of transactions, undertaking reconciliations, preparing monthly reports, tracking and managing cash flows to facilitate payments).
  • Demonstrated experience being proactive and using sound judgement and problem solving skills to resolve issues and implement improved business practices.
  • Pro-actively undertake and complete work with accuracy and timeliness including prioritisation of own tasks contributing to team service delivery.
  • Ensure data integrity through demonstrated attention to detail and quality data input.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A proven ability to work well within a team to provide a high level of customer service.
