Rubicor Technical Ltd, on behalf of our client Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL), are seeking an experienced Senior Manager – Supply & Business Services.  Reporting to the Managing Director and with seven direct reports this role has responsibility for managing all supply chain operations to provide an effective supply chain for the Barrick PNG Operations, to enable the business to meet its long and short term business objectives.

BNL is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture (PJV) partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Develop local systems for the efficient management of:
    • Purchasing
    • Contracts
    • Logistics
    • Warehouse
    • Inventory
    • Transport and Travel
    • Camps and Catering
    • Business Services
  • Assist the Managing Director in developing the overall business strategy, particularly in regard to supply and business support matters
  • Manage the above functions to achieve efficiencies and opportunities across the organisation.
  • Achieve safe and healthy working conditions, agreed environmental targets, legal compliance and incident prevention.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, in PNG’s mining activities, consistent with Barrick’s Community Relations Policies.
  • Develop the Annual Plan for the department and drive achievement of continuous improvement targets.
  • Prepare and manage the budget for the department.
  • Develop objectives for sharing common infrastructure and support services across Barrick.
About you:
  • Recognised tertiary qualifications in Supply Management are desirable, in addition to the key skills and experience required or a minimum of 10 years’ experience at this level.
  • Member of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, the Australian Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management or similar
Key Skills & Experience Required
  • Significant supply management experience, including several years in leadership roles.
  • Knowledge and experience managing camps, catering, travel and transport management within remote locations.
  • Experience coordinating purchasing and warehousing functions in a remote location.
  • Knowledge and experience in a mining operation in a developing country, demonstrating commitment to localisation plans and sensitivity to local customs and practices.
  • Knowledge of PNG and gold industry supply chain issues.
  • Knowledge in the development and implementation of supply systems.
  • Knowledge of cataloguing methodology.
  • Knowledge of Australian Institute of Purchasing and Materials Management (or similar) code of ethics
  • Some knowledge of contract law and insurance law and practice.
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
  • High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG.
  • Experience in managing department costs and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
This role will be on a FIFO roster of 16/12 (days) with a charter out of Cairns. Work location will be the Porgera Mine Site, PNG. On site all accommodation and food will be provided.
An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia.
Relocation assistance is provided should you wish to move to Cairns (provided you have the right to reside in Australia).
FIFO from international locations will be considered.
In addition to good base annual salary and international savings plan you will receive:
  • Location allowance
  • Mobility allowance
  • Short term incentive plan
  • Long term incentive plan.
For PNG Visa purposes you will to undertake immigration and pre-employment medical screening and will need to obtain a National Police Clearance.
The offer for this role is conditional upon the candidate successfully obtaining and retaining a visa that allows you to work in Papua New Guinea.
